Testing news from SENSEWind!

The team building the 2MW SENSE self-installing wind turbine demonstrator has achieved another significant milestone with successful factory acceptance testing of the main load carrying assembly of the SENSE system, which lifts the fully assembled turbine rotor nacelle assembly turbine up the tower.

The lifting assembly was installed onto a test section of the tower rail and tested to a proof load under simulated operational conditions. Witnessed by ABL Group and conducted at Caley Ocean Systems’ facility in Glasgow, the testing has verified that the lifting system meets the design requirements and is ready for use on site.

The tests have verified a range of factors including operational loads, bearing surfaces, repeatability, and contamination.

CEO and SENSEWind Founder Patrick Geraets was delighted to report, “The factory acceptance test results are another important milestone in our demonstration programme, further building confidence that the technology will perform as expected on the 2MW wind turbine being installed next year.”

Thanks to the teams from SENSEWind, Caley Ocean Systems and ABL Group for this achievement!
